75 Are We “Once Saved, Always Saved”?

1 John 2:19  “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.”

When a person is saved, they make a confession of faith that they believe Jesus Christ is the one and only son of God that died on the cross for their sins and was raised from the dead, however, just as there is a confession of faith there is also of confession of disbelief such as “I once believed in God when I was young and foolish but not anymore”.
When someone who was “with us” as John puts it, rejects God they are no longer with us just as Demas who was one of Paul’s disciples left the way of God for the way of the world: 2 Timothy 4:10 “For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica….”
There are four reactions people have in there lives when they hear the word of the Lord as the parable of the sower tells us: one, “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart,” two, “The one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away,” three, “the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful,” and four, “the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

The Parable Of The Sower
Matthew 13:4-9 & 18-23 And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.  Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.  Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.  Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.  He who has ears, let him hear.” ….. “Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.  As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.  As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.  As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
