Matthew 13: 10-11 “Then the
disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered
them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven,
but to them it has not been given.”
When Jesus began his ministry, he did not start out big with a message
for the whole world; he spoke in parables that had to be explained to the
disciples that they might know the things from the Father that they needed for
their own ministries .
He spoke to the people in parables, not because he did not wish them
to repent, for even before Jesus came, John the Baptist was preaching
repentance, but because the people had turned away and would not listen
(Matthew 13:15).
He did not always talk in parables, not when he was healing people or
being tested by the Pharisees, at which times Jesus was very frank and clear.
“For this people's heart has grown dull,
and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed,
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
and turn, and I would heal them.’”
Matthew 11: 25-26 At that time
Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have
hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little
children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have
been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the
Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son
chooses to reveal him.
And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom
of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, so that
“they may indeed see but not perceive,
and may indeed hear but not understand,
lest they should
turn and be forgiven.”
Matthew 13:12 “For to the one who has, more will be
given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what
he has will be taken away.”
