Matthew 5:17-19 “Do not think that I have come to
abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill
them. For
truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot,
will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes
one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will
be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches
them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus is very clear in Matthew 5 that he is not
destroying the law or changing so much as one punctuation park; he is also very
clear that we are still to obey it, anyone that “Relaxes one of the least of
these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in
the kingdom of heaven.”
Every one of the Old Testament laws has a meaning beyond
‘do this and do not do that,’ for example, the fifth of the ten commandments
“Honor your father and mother” was not just given so that we would obey it, but
that we would be obedient to God, humble ourselves, trust our parents
throughout our upbringing, and many more virtues that are not recognized at
first reading.
There are many who are confused and outright discredit
the law, believing that it is no longer valid, I myself used to believe that,
but was confused with certain Bible teachings because I did not understand the
law’s importance.
