Doesn’t God’s Kingdom Grow Slowly Until It Fills the Earth?
Matthew 13:31-32
“He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is
like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It
is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the
garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make
nests in its branches.””
One of the most amazing things about the mustard seed is
that it grows proportionally enormous compared to the size of its seed (seeds
are 1-2mm in diameter and trees grow to about 20ft. so it could be a 1 to 6,096
ratio), which is why Jesus chose to compare it to the kingdom of heaven.
Now it is not a fast growing plant, neither is the
church, but in time the church will grow larger, stronger, and more fruitful
until the day of Christ’s coming.
The Gospel is being preached all over the world and I
believe things will get better for the church as the mustard tree grew into a
place of refuge for the birds, contrary to some beliefs that things will get
worse on earth for the church.
