Aren’t Those Who Obey God’s Law the “Salt of the world”?
Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt
of the earth, but if salt has
lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for
anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.”
It is a popular belief that Christians have to follow God’s law to become
salt and light to the world or they have to do things that Christians should be
doing for Christ but are doing them so that men will see them ‘walk the walk.’
For this reason, many believers send their children into poisonous
school systems that pollute young Christian minds, causing many to abandon
their faith rather than being an example of God’s love.
What so many have missed is that the Bible says “You are the salt of the earth,” not
“you must be the salt,” you do not have to do anything for the purpose
of being salt, as the Pharisees did, just being a Christian (a sincere one) and
living for Jesus makes us different to the world as we “Are the light of the
world,” the salt in a bland and tasteless meal.
Mark 9:50 “Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will
you make it salty again? Have salt
in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
