Doesn’t “Leaven” Mean Victory?
Matthew 13:33 “He told them another parable. “The kingdom
of heaven is like leaven that a
woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.””
Firstly, the leaven in this parable does not represent ‘sin’ even
though Jesus later says “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees” in Matthew 16:6 while Matthew 13:33 is His first usage of leaven
which He clearly says is representing “The kingdom of heaven.”
Leaven
is like yeast, a little goes through the whole loaf, expanding and softening
the dough just as the Gospel goes through the whole world expanding the kingdom
of heaven.
This
parable ends with everything being leavened out meaning the gospel will not
stop being preached until everyone has heard it and had a chance to receive
Christ as their Lord and Savior.
2 Peter 1:11 "For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into
the eternal kingdom of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ."
