According to a certain college guide, students taking
English 6 have to ‘volunteer’ to tutor high school students as part of their
education even though the point of ‘volunteering’ is that the person chooses to
do it of their free will and out of generosity, but that title is meaningless
now because colleges all over the States are incorporating mandatory volunteer
work into student’s schedules, in some cases making it a prerequisite to
graduating.
Have people simply lost the ability to think freely and
teach others likewise, or is it a goal to create graduates that know how to
memorize for tests but cannot consider if something is right or wrong, freedom
or oppression?
Perhaps it is a goal, just as assigning a volunteer mandate
gives colleges a boost in appearances and the professors behind this ‘brilliant’
idea, funded by other peoples money, food for their ego.
